Books About HR Tactics
Work Rules! That Will Transform How You Live and Lead, Laszlo Bock
This book is a human resources idea factory!
Insider tip: While you might not have the resources of Google, you can still use their ideas to create solutions that suit your organization. My bet is you can easily come up with 5 new ideas for your HR department after reading this book.
Books About Leadership
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni
Perhaps, the best book written on the theory of teamwork.
Insider tip: This book is best as an overview to building trust on a team. There is much work to be done after reading, so keep a notebook handy to write down implementation ideas. For extra credit, pick up the field guide Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of a Team, chock full of ideas and activities.
Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business, Gino Wickman
My all time favorite book on implementing a leadership structure.
Insider tip: Start implementing your leadership structure today. If you don't have structure, you are bound to struggle. If this book is not your cup of tea, check out, Scaling Up, Verne Harnish.
Books About Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Pay Up, Reshma Saujani
From the founder of Girls Who Code, a call to revolutionize our work culture to include mothers.
Insider Tip: This is a good book to check out from the library, as you really only need to read chapter 1, 5, 6, and 7. Other chapters are a bit repetitive. Use this resource as a springboard for your own ideas; journal as you go, and you won't need to refer back to the actual book.
Speaking of library books, your local library is one of many free resources you should be taking advantage of. Check out my list of free resources for human capital professionals here.
