The road to team actualization (the pinnacle for Talent Alchemists) is paved with engaged employees. An Employee Journey Map, customized to your culture and workflow, helps to support, develop, and champion your talent. Read on to learn how to create a rewarding employee experience by understanding their needs at each stage of the journey.
Employee Needs
Our Employee Journey Map is based upon Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. In a nutshell, Maslow's theory states a human must satisfy needs at the bottom of the pyramid before achieving loftier aspirations higher up the hierarchy. The ultimate goal is self-actualization at the top of the pyramid. If you'd like to read more about the original theory, please visit Simple Psychology.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs applies to the workplace, too, specifically in depicting the employee journey. An employee has similar needs at work as they do in the broader aspects of their life. Each positive step in the journey can lead to better employee engagement. Each unfulfilled step can find an employee stuck at a lower level of the pyramid, resulting in disengagement and voluntary turn-over.

Below is Talent Alchemist's Employee Journey model, which includes approximate timeframes for each stage. The map also includes potential questions from an employee at each level, along with suggested ideas to support those needs.
Employer Activities Throughout The Journey
Understanding employee needs during their journey with your organization is only half the battle. The second step is to translate that understanding to action. For an HR department, action comes in the form of people initiatives and policies. In the following diagram, in the far right column, you will find potential programs and ideas to build a positive employee journey.
Talent Alchemists can assist with program development at any stage of the employee journey. Reach out on our contact form details. If you'd like a free, customizable PowerPoint deck which includes all versions of this Employee Journey map, please subscribe to our newsletter.
